Finding Quality Family Time

In the busyness of everyday life, we can lose precious time with those who matter most. Consider these ideas to spend quality, screen-free time with your loved ones.

Focus on Food
Dining as a family is a great way to share quality time. But consider taking it one step further by having everyone work together to prepare the meal. Assign each family member specific tasks, such as gathering ingredients, setting the table or stirring the food on the stove. Just be sure to keep a close eye on children around knives and hot surfaces.

Get Outdoors
Find time once a week to get fresh air with your family. You can go to the park, ride bikes, stargaze, or enjoy a picnic in your own backyard.

Schedule Downtime
Free time is all too often squandered on distractions from our phones, the internet or work. Be proactive about setting aside quality time with loved ones. Plan a night with no commitments and pick an activity that you and your family can enjoy together. Play your favorite board game, work on a puzzle or read a book together.

National Popcorn Day

If you're looking for a reason to enjoy a big bowl of delicious popcorn, National Popcorn Day is January 19. Here are a few fun facts about this tasty treat.

Ancient Favorite
Archaeologists have discovered popcorn kernels that are more than 4,000 years old! However, popcorn didn't become a popular snack in the United States until the mid-1800s. Over a century later in the early 1980s, the snack's popularity began to surge with the introduction of microwavable popcorn.

Diet Friendly
Compared to other snacks, popcorn is extremely low in calories. Air-popped popcorn contains only 31 calories per cup. Gluten-free popcorn is also available for those who are gluten intolerant.

American Staple
There's no denying it: Americans love popcorn. We consume more than 15 billion quarts of popcorn every year, which is about 45 quarts per person!

Delicious Variety
Whether it's buttered, salted or coated with caramel, popcorn can be prepared in just a few minutes.
