Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. President Franklin Roosevelt declared December 7, 1941, as "a date that will live in infamy," and Congress officially designated National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in 1994.

On that day in 1941, hundreds of Japanese warplanes launched an attack on the U.S. naval base in Honolulu. The attack lasted for hours, with over 20 ships damaged or sunk, and 350 aircraft damaged or destroyed. Tragically, the attack left 1,143 wounded and 2,403 killed. The United States declared war on Japan and officially entered World War II the following day.

To honor the fallen from that day, consider participating in a local commemoration event or watch the 80th anniversary observance online. You can also send care packages to soldiers overseas or donate to a charity that supports the military and their families, such as the Wounded Warrior Project and Folds of Honor.
